{"type":"root","children":[{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"type":"text","value":"Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) protein is a transcription factor that is essential for the development of various organs and tissues, including the kidneys, gonads, and cardiovascular system. It is expressed in the metanephric mesenchyme and regulates the differentiation of nephron progenitor cells into functional renal epithelial cells, required for the formation of glomeruli, renal tubules, and podocytes of the kidney filtration barrier. Mutations of the WT1 gene on Chromosome 11 are observed in approximately 20% of Wilms tumors. Wilms tumor is a neoplasm of the kidneys that typically occurs in children. At least half of the Wilms tumors with mutations in WT1 also carry mutations in CTNNB1, the gene encoding the proto-oncogene beta-catenin. According to literature, WT1 has been identified in other tumors such as malignant mesothelioma, ovarian cystadenocarcinoma, gonadoblastoma, and desmoplastic small round cell tumor."}]}]}
