Summary & Explanation

{"type":"root","children":[{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"type":"text","value":"Sry-related high-mobility group box (SOX) gene family contains more than 20 transcription factors. SOX-2, along with SOX-1 and SOX-3 are transcription factors belonging to the SOXB1 family. SOX-2 is essential for maintaining self-renewal, or pluripotency, of undifferentiated embryonic stem cells. It is required for stem cell maintenance in the central nervous system, and it also regulates gene expression in the stomach. SOX-2 is expressed in the multipotential neural steam cells in the fetal brain. According to literature, SOX-2 is expressed in various tumors such as teratoma of the central nervous system, melanoma, testicular germ cell tumor, cervical carcinoma, lung cancer, breast cancer with basal cell phenotype, and squamous cell carcinoma of the gastrointestinal tract."}]}]}
