MUC2 secreted by goblet cells is a major component in the insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen. The protein polymerizes into a gel of which 80% is composed of oligosaccharide side chains by weight. MUC2 expression is detected in normal colon, breast, prostate, salivary glands, and in gastrointestinal, colonic, breast and prostate neoplasia."}]}]}
