TRPS1 modulates cell proliferation, apoptosis, and DNA repair, thus dysregulation of TRPS1 expression can contribute to tumorigenesis. TRPS1 has been implicated as a tumor suppressor and an oncogene, as aberrant expression has a variety of effects: loss of TRPS1 expression is observed in more aggressive breast cancer, while overexpression of TRPS1 has been detected in primary and metastasizing prostate cancer.
