ERα is present mainly in mammary gland, uterus, ovary (thecal cells), bone, male reproductive organs (testes and epididymis), prostate (stroma), liver, and adipose tissue. By contrast, ERβ is found mainly in the prostate (epithelium), bladder, ovary (granulosa cells), colon, adipose tissue, and immune system. Estrogen Receptor (ER) mediates the effects of estrogens, and functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor. Upon binding estrogen, ER undergoes conformational changes, dimerizes, and translocates to the nucleus, where it binds to specific estrogen response element (ERE) regulatory DNA sequences. ER-mediated gene regulation is crucial for the development and maintenance of reproductive tissues, bone density, cardiovascular health, and other physiological functions."}]}]}
