There are two types of cytokeratins: acidic type I cytokeratins and basic or neutral type II cytokeratins. Cytokeratins are usually found in pairs comprising a type I cytokeratin and a type II cytokeratin. Expression of these cytokeratins is frequently organ or tissue specific and cytokeratin marker is used to study the distribution of keratin-containing cells in epithelia during normal development and during the development of epithelial neoplasms. AE3 detects all basic type II high molecular weight cytokeratins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the low molecular weight cytokeratins 7 and 8. Not reactive to cytokeratins 17 and 18."}]}]}
