Brachyury is essential for the formation and patterning of the notochord during embryogenesis. It regulates the expression of genes involved in notochord development, cell differentiation, and axial patterning, contributing to the establishment of the body plan. Aberrant expression of brachyury has been observed in chordoma, a rare and aggressive tumor derived from remnants of the embryonic notochord along the axial skeleton, particularly at the skull base and sacrococcygeal region. Cells that overexpress brachyury also have down-regulated expression of the adhesion molecule E-cadherin, which allows them to undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)."}]}]}
