Beta-catenin binds to the cytoplasmic tail of E-cadherin to form the cadherin protein complex. Cadherins are cell adhesion molecules that form adherens junctions that allow cells to adhere to each other. Beta-catenin also acts as a transcriptional co-activator in the Wnt pathway by binding to transcription factors like T-cell factor/lymphoid enhancer-binding factor (TCF/LEF), activating target genes required in cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation. Aberrant beta-catenin signaling has implications in various types of cancers. Research has shown that mutations in the Beta-catenin gene can result in the nuclear accumulation of this protein, which has been demonstrated in fibromatosis lesions of the breast and abdomen."}]}]}
