ATRX interacts with histones and modifies chromatin structure to regulate gene expression, DNA replication, and repair. It regulates the incorporation of histone variant H3.3 at telomeres, which is essential for telomere stability and function. Mutations of the ATRX gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation (XLMR) syndrome most often accompanied by alpha-thalassemia (ATRX) syndrome. Alterations in ATRX expression have been reported in various cancers, particularly in gliomas and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs). Loss of ATRX expression is associated with alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT), a telomere maintenance mechanism observed in certain cancer types. ATRX alterations are also reported in other cancer types, including pediatric neuroblastoma, neuroendocrine tumors, and sarcomas."}]}]}
